Don’t forgot them forcing down a version of that game that is inferior to the pc version. Them pushing hard on the terrible MC store whatever it’s called.

>When I see children today who probably were not even born when Minecraft came out, I still see Minecraft clothing on them.

Its weird how coincidental this post is, i just had my younger gen alpha cousins over at my place and we played mc, its funny showing them videos of 5 year old me playing the game before they were even born. Minecraft is eternal

raine isnt that bad of a composer imo, jus that it fits this new pozzed mc more bc its less emptier and more "nu" and cottagecore like. Still, nothing can top C418 "da goat" as the dark ones say

Yeah, people say his music is terrible but it’s pretty good. But C418 is peak

Expand full comment

Disagree, it's way too either dubsteppy for minecraft or is a cheap imitation of c418's stuff

yeah i honestly feel pretty bad for him , he has a talent and he was afterall chosen by c418 , but i don’t think any “bgm composer” can get as close to c418 -ever.

I was reading that the new code for minecraft prioritizes the new music over the old C148 stuff.

Minecraft really did hit a sweet spot visually and mechanically that open world sandboxes both before and after having never really been able to replicate. I remember my first time playing it on a friend's PC back in 2011. It had this really magic feeling discovering how free and open the world was, as well as how simple and understandable your tools were for manipulating it. Closest I've come to feeling something similar for a game (though not *that* close) was playing Valheim for the first time.

Minecraft Bedrock edition is probably Microsoft’s biggest sin. Putting otherwise free downloadable content behind paywalls is extremely exploitative.

Another thing i want to note here, is how it's getting clearer how brainwashed the MC community is when talking about Notch. Talking about him in a neutral or positive manner in most public spaces is like wanting to be harassed. Not only this, but also there's this phenomenon that surged from the nostalgia alpha-beta movement in recent years, that is basically "Minecraft's early development wasn't good, acshully".

I swear, the culture around the game's so weird now. We get further and further from what it used to be, yet there's still lots of people who want to go back.

I miss when games were focused on level design instead of how big of a map they could make.

I like the Create mod (and all of its addons) for Minecraft because it is swag. I've been meaning to set up a Minecraft server that runs the Create mod but I can't seem to find my 100ft ethernet cable to plug it up with, since it's in a room with no working ethernet port. Perhaps I shall return to my search now...

Add on to this the fact that most Minecraft servers haven’t updated past 1.8 because the combat update was so bad that it permabroke pvp.

Personally, I think that Minecraft was finished with 1.4. 1.5 was basically a DLC, nice to have, but was the first update that focused on a specific mechanic rather than overall additions. It continued like that for a while, but the focus and additions became ever more disconnected from what players would actually enjoy or things that would expand and improve the world. The latest update I play is 1.12, only because it is the first that has both a few qol changes that I just can’t go without (shift to sprint instead of double tap W), and that most mods fork to.

This year's April Fools update was apparently really controversial because it added a bunch of (potato themed) items/mobs/etc. that fans had been asking about for years. Then they just took it away after the event was over and never added a proper version to the game lol.

They might do it later, I remember they also did this for stuff like stained glass & coal blocks in 2013

Nu minecraft devs make sure nothing ever happens, you have not been paying attention to the greatness of past April fools updates

It doesn't matter to me much personally cuz I only really play with the Create mod installed nowadays which adds the cool stuff I wanted.

Was 1.5 the Aquatic Update? I definitely remember Aquatic as when the game started feeling really different. That and that update when they changed the terrain generation to have all those new biomes like mesas and savannas, which I have mixed feelings about.

The last update I remember coming out that had 100% good and useful things that were worth adding was release 1.3. That was the last patch I was excited about and greatly enjoyed using all the new additions and features. The game has not been the same since.

Aquatic update was 1.13, 1.5 was the redstone update

One of my all-time favorite games. I still play the modern versions but it feels really bland imo, they are changing too many things in such ways that it feels made for ((modern audiences)) and progressively disconnect themselves from the original, older features for the newer toys.

Also, have You seen how many people have been RETVRNing to beta?

Still can't believe they haven't added the Aether. Also you should do an article on Paradox games and how the fanbase has changed over the years (heavy shift from pretty right wing to trannies).

This reminds me, the other day on xitter I had an interaction with C418 where i trolled him nice and good for disrespecting the legendary and traditionalist Halo track composer, THE Martin O’Donnel.
